Kitchen is no longer a standalone space for cooking, but often blends seamlessly with the living room. Dining rooms, if they even exist at all, sometimes have no walls, but are designated only by the obvious purpose of a table and chairs. No matter what colors you choose for your open concept living room and kitchen, make sure they’re colors that you love. It’s not a super light color – it is pigmented enough that it definitely reads as gray. I’d classify it as closer to a medium than light gray.

However, I feel strongly that open common spaces – especially if you have an open concept “gathering” type living space, should all be painted one cohesive color. I also love accent walls, molding, and wallpaper in certain spaces.

In large doses, black can make a space dark and uninviting and inhibit creative thinking. Therefore, it is best used as an accent color rather than a wall color. For learning spaces, yellow can help hold attention and foster creativity, making it one of the best wall colors for education.
This is also a great color to play around with accent walls with a richer tone like navy. One of the most important thing to remember about all paint colors is that they appear differently in different lighting situations. So, you want to be sure to paint large samples and check them at different times of day to be sure that you like the way the color looks. And it is true, a new paint color is the least expensive and easiest update for any type of space. However, open concept homes can be a bit tricky when it comes to paint. I am often asked where to start and stop the change in a paint color and what colors look best next to each other within the same space.
An example would be a kitchen that is open to a great room that includes space for living and eating. While browsing potential colors, select a paint chip for each non-neutral color you’d like to use. Paint always looks brighter and more intense on a wall than it does on a paint chip.
But maybe it's because of lighting and yellows in my house. I better put a 2nd coat on my samples and maybe paint a wall in one of my rooms. Maison Blanche is on their Timeless Color Paint palette.
